What makes Zanzibar special?

Zanzibar is one of the archipelago islands off the east coast of Tanzania, in the Indian Ocean. It is a popular destination because it offers a unique blend of African, Arab, Portuguese and Indian cultures and its very own natural beauty. Some of the other reasons why Zanzibar is so sought after are:

The Beaches:

Zanzibar is considered one of the top snorkelling spots in Africa mainly due to its coral reefs, white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters. Nungwi and Kendwa are two of the most popular and iconic beaches, known to be beautiful blue waters and white sandy beaches.

Walk around Stonetown

Stone town is a UNESCO World Heritage site for many reasons, like its important coastal trading station, its cultural significance for the Swahili civilization and for its dark history of having a significantly large slave trade market in the 1800s which was shut down in the early 1870s.

there are walking tours you can find on trip advisor here.

Culture

The cultures in Zanzibar are a blend of Arab, Indian, Portuguese, and African cultures, the architecture, cuisine and music are all different and that is reflected in their rich culture.

Wildlife

one of the only places one can find Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey in the world, they are severely endangered and have a large habitat in Zanzibar. This is a great place to view them in their natural habitat. Zanzibar is also home to Giant tortoises, dolphins and over 500 different species of birds.

Freddie Mercury Museum
Famous for being the lead singer of the band Queen, the Freddie Mercury Museum is the building that once was his childhood home. It has personal items and memorabilia related to Freddie’s life and career.

In all, there are lots of things to do in Zanzibar, and hopefully, this blog post gets you more interested in looking into visiting the island. Below are some places I looked at to know what I wanted to do in Zanzibar
